Any and all grind in GWs is completely optional, you are not forced to do it at all. Understand that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for why im still playing the game... ughh because I enjoy it and I dont fall under that rediculious impression that I need to have all my pve only skills maxed out and then start winging.

I play the game how I want, and I dont grind for anything unless I choose to. If someone tries to pressure me into increasing ranks or using skills I dont want to, I tell them !@## off!

Optional yes. But I seem to remember a time when armour crafters didn't require xxx faction to even browse their wares. And a time when no matter how many hours you played your lvl 20 character was just as powerful as everyone elses.
The game has definitely leaned towards time sinks and added incentives to entice players into partaking in time sink based gameplay. The game, she has a changed.

Yea it is, i came from playing EQ2 and WoW. Ill admit those games are far superior than our little GW. But at some point i got fed up with taking money from my pay check. Paying for WoW a month is like 2 hours of work, that i would like to keep.

I play because I'm not done yet, there's always better goodies, nice titles and the like, and lots of areas are fun to visit more thern once, like the GW:EN dungeons, TOPK, urgoz, hard mode factions slugfests etce etc.

And then there's PvP, doesn't bore really fast either.

Your absolutely right. But since rank 5 takes very little effort to get and just requires playing the storyline once, then thats not a huge issue. But again, any other grind in GWs is optional.

People who complain about grind tend to put some unworthy, or unfounded importance on what your grinding for.

Whether it be exploration, opening chests, iding items, HM or NM, increasing title ranks or playing mini games in GWEN to get pve only skills.

If you compare an MMO to an FPS or an RPG. You might have grinding aspects to an FPS and an RPG, but those are single player games and people dont complain. The driving force in an MMO is always to be more powerfull then the guy next to you, and that mentality is what is driving this "anti-grind" protest.

People just want to be better or more powerfull then Joe Blogg. But in reality, they dont need to be. Its all an ego trip and wanting to be better then everyone else, or being jealous if Joe Blogg is stronger then you.

Anet loves to try and say that GWs is a skill based game and its not about being better then the next guy like in WoW. But in reality, its exactly the same. People just dont want to feel like their disadvantaged, even if it doesnt matter.

People also seem to be under some impression that PlayerA is better at grinding then PlayerB. Like PlayerA has some hidden magical ability to make points easier. Which is just nonsense. We all have the same edge in GWs. We can all take bounties and re-do the same quests and dungeons.

PlayerA has no more ability to make points any easier then PlayerB. Its just a question of whether you both want to put in the same effort, time and importance into it.

No, the game hasn't changed...

And its cosmetic grind you guys are whining about...

My ranger finally finished GW:EN last night and he's the first of my 6 characters to finish all four parts of the game, yet he is still resplendant in his Tyrian Armour he got in Wajjun Bazaar 6 hours after his birth, the day before Factions went live on the prerelease day... Thats 18 months in the same armour

Ok, he wants that new Norn armour, but he's not bothered enough to go and grind for it

*Stops talking through his characters now*

Ok, my point is, it IS optional, mainly due tot he fact that your characters are already lvl 20, should already have max armour and weapons and what they have is enough to beat GW:EN

Because I still enjoy getting together with friends to do something like complete a dungeon. The grind doesn't bother me - I choose not to do it. I wasn an Asuran bow, and Norn armour, for my Ranger, but it's not like I'm going to go grind the points for them. I'll get them when I get them.

Well, heck if that's the philosophy. Every side quest could be made into a kill 1000 Charr quest, because those are all optional and not necessary in completing the story, therefore nobody would have a right to complain?
The complaint is about the addition of really shallow time sinks accessing types of content previously unattached to time sinks. The content in EotN is no more challenging than anything I've witnessed so far in Guild Wars. I thought it pretty weak that much of EotN's content was exclusively accesed through kill 10,000 easy mobs.
The only content I thought that was decent was the crown, because it involved figuring out how to beat the Norn Arena with my mesmer.

Yes and as I summed up in my statement, its not necessary and only for those that actually want to do it on top of not actually being very hard to do...

Hell, I did side quests on said ranger and just as I did over in nightfall, i made sure I found all the Norn for the reputation, ok, a lil out of my way sometimes, but i wouldn't call it grind

So your issue is needing rank 5 for armor, weapons and consumables?

As I keep saying in so many threads, including this one; you can get rank 5 on all races or close, by just doing the quests and dungeons.

You cant argue against me because I did it. If you've completed GWEN and your not even on rank 4 on them all, then you must have missed something!

Not to mention drawf points are stupidly easy to make due to the snowman dungeon! So you can alteast get one armor set very easily!

I admittadly didnt get exactly to rank 5 on them all, but it only took 2 or 3 bounty runs in the relivant territories to boost me up a bit. Something you can do while exploring the new instances!!!

That really is not a huge amount of time or effort which Anet is asking of you. These are requirements which can be achieved by just playing all quests and dungeons. I assume you like doing quests and dungeons and missions, otherwise why are you playing PvE?

Its no different to waiting until you finished factions or nightfall before you can get end-game armor. Just complete the game, earn all the points you can, boost your ranks a tiny bit with bounty hunting and your sorted.

If its that hard, how did I manage to get Norn and Vanguard elemental armor in just 2 weeks of playing? I also had to earn the gold from scratch for both sets!

Any ranks over 5 are completely optional. You could also argue that even getting rank 5 is optional considering you presumably enter GWEN with max armor anyway and max weapons.

Why is there a desperate rush to get new armor from GWEN when you must alteast have one max armor set and a max weapon already? Your at no disadvantage with needing to wait a bit longer to get new armor!

This really is just about "right that guy has Norn armor, thats not fair, I want it now", or "That guy has rank 7 and I want my skills to be that powerfull too, thats not fair"...

...yet none of it is critical to anything.

I agree adding this new requirement into GWEN is daft, when we have needed no title requirements for armor in the past (unless you count luxon or kuzack sides - something I dont like because I dont like faction earning, but I dont complain).

But those ranks can be met by just playing the game. What if they had put the armor at the end of the game? Would you have complained you need to kill the end boss each time and had to play the storyline?

QFT.

Indirectly, a lot of people on these boards seem fairly annoyed at me because I happen to really like Guild Wars.... though the magnitude of that tends to fluctuate.
Addition of Nightfall = Up
Addition of Hard Mode = Down
Addition of Eye of the North (Jora, Livia & Hayda) = Up
Most of the rest of Eye of the North = Down
Assassin Buffs = Up
New Report System = Down

On the whole though... I'm still nowhere near quitting... personally...
... Even if I do play it like a single-player game most of the time.

S*nyphile. -_-;

*Has two Microsoft pieces, two Nintendo, and his ancient collection of the life of Sega*

Get back into Guild Wars, gain a backbone and keep looking for those few decent folks amongst all the dross!

.... And don't buy that PS3. S*ny products are designed to break, and designed to twist the gaming industry around their own filthy fingers.

Excluding Sunspear points, and Kurzick/Luxon faction of course.

I still play 'cause I enjoy chatting to my friends on Guild Wars, and getting armor for my characters. I guess there's been not much else to it since I started playing, yet I've been having fun nonethless.

Even without the new Kurzick / Luxon blessing system for getting extra faction.... it is just a matter of doing most of the quests. Note: MOST... not all. Do the quests... get the faction points.... continue with main quest. No grind needed.
With the blessings too, you can do it with just the first set of quests you get from House Zu Heltzer or Cavalon. Easy as pie.

Don't bother with titles?
Spend your time chatting in-game? .... Strange...
To each their own I suppose.

Lots of grinding for collect the points to get the armors ... before factions and nighfall come out many players have grind to achive objectives ... best example is FoW armor and for get it its not a question of points that you easy can get in some hours of play ... for it the grind was of several months fighting for each ecto or shard and farming to get the money for them ... after you got them it was not enough you need to get a party to help you do the quests needed to armor crafter ... you did that because you want it you can say ... OK so i can say the same ... want the armor? fight for it ... gw is not a game to be played in few days many of the players you see here have more then 3k hours in game and only now are achiving the max stats of game

I have to amend my previous post with one additional reason I will continue to play GW for quite a while. I just got a new PC; my old one was at least four years old. I have NEVER seen GW like this before. I will have to do all the stuff over just so I can see what I missed. I can see the individual movements of the monsters, the real spell effects and the landscape/environment amazes me. Imagine going from South park v2.0 to Transformers the movie in the push of the on button.

Hey, really glad to see another player post this! :) Seriously, armor in GWEN is not difficult to get. If your only goal is achieving rank 5 and you have tunnel vision and you wipe out the NPCs in a zone over and over and over just for this, you are imposing a grind on yourself. But if you explore on the side, try going after chests, take side-quests in towns and cities, maybe go so far as to help others with quests you've already done (and get a social benefit from it!) you'll get rank 5 in no time. I too have done this, and I don't understand people who state that most players will never be able to unlock this content.

When I start complaining about the game and finding things annoying or that I'm starting to hate the game, I simply take a break, like I am now. Some breaks I've taken in the past have been 1-2 weeks, and I've even taken one that lasted 4 months. Then I come back and feel refreshed and don't complain about it anymore because I'm actually having fun. That's probably why I've been able to play this game since release and I continue playing... plus, I don't take this game as seriously as some people seem to...
